Some experts say 90% of what we communicate is non-verbal.
We send non-verbal messages through body language and facial expressions, in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.
Flirting is the act of sending subtle messages through our bodies and faces, sometimes without even saying a word!
We use this form of language to attract people of interest, or to communicate that we’re not interested!
It can be difficult to interpret these signs, especially for teens dealing with both puberty and a special need such as autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.
Reading Body Language: Flirting Flash Cards
by Stephanie Mitelman, M.A., CSE, AASECT Certified Sexuality Educator
These cards were designed to teach students with social impairments, particularly those with autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, or other special needs, to look at body language and facial expressions of someone else to get information about a person’s interest or feelings.
They give students an edge in understanding what is communicated in an interaction.
They also help individuals be more aware of their own messages, and how their body and facial expressions may be communicating information to others.
The set includes 44 laminated cards expressing different messages conveyed by body language and facial expressions, by both males and females.
The cards have images on the front, and full descriptions of what is being communicated, on the back of the card.
The pictures are matched with full descriptions of what is being communicated.
They can be used to teach about body language, or to quickly quiz learners.
